Home Study  Services

A Home Study is an educational process, just as adoption is a lifelong process. CAS of FCC is happy to be able to provide high-quality and expedient Home Studies for Illinois families.

An adoption Home study is an opportunity for families to explore with an experienced adoption worker the lifelong issues of adoption for themselves and their children. It also includes help with choice of program, foster home licensing and required paperwork, and helps prospective adoptive parents understand the unique joys and challenges of adoptive parenting.  CAS of FCC believes that the process should be educational and enjoyable as prospective adoptive parents learn about adoption issues and procedures.  We want it to be informative and helpful to prospective adoptive parents.

For Domestic adoptions, the Home Study will also address the amount of contact prospective adoptive parents wish to have with the birth parents prior to, during, and after placement.  We at CAS of FCC believe it is important for all parties to be comfortable with their decisions and to be true to themselves.  Therefore, CAS of FCC helps prospective adoptive parents and prospective birth parents advocate for themselves and to make their own choices and decisions in developing their adoption plans, rather than imposing our own biases.

For International Adoption, an adoption Home Study needs to be completed by a licensed child welfare agency, such as the Complete Adoption Services of Family Counseling Clinic, Inc. The purpose of an International Adoption Home Study is to discuss and share information which will enable the adoptive family to meet the requirements of the State of Illinois, the United States and the country where the adoptive family will adopt a child or children. Notarized original copies are sent to the Immigration and Naturalization Services Office, Illinois Children and Family Services and the adopting country.

In addition, it is crucial for families adopting from another country to understand the history and culture of that country. International adoption requires a sense of adventure, a willingness to take risks and a desire to learn the special needs of children from other countries. Your worker will also address these particular issues during the Home Study process.

bullet Post Adoption Services

For those Illinois families who need to complete an adoption in Illinois, whether domestic or international, the Complete Adoption Services of Family Counseling Clinic provides comprehensive post placement services.  Post placement services occur after a child has been placed in an adoptive home; the number of Post-Placement visits required will depend upon the state, or country in which the adoption occurred. After placement you and your Home Study worker will meet either at our monthly drop-in* visits (which provides an opportunity to meet other adoptive families) or you can schedule an individual interview for a post placement visit.

After these visits, your worker will write a report which will provide positive feedback regarding your child's adjustment either to finalize a domestic adoption in an Illinois court, or for international adoption, to foreign government officials, orphanage workers and foster parents . If the adoption is to be finalized in U.S. Court or a re-adoption is completed in Illinois we will also provide the court report.

While we rarely have concerns about individual abilities to parent, adoption situations may present unique challenges. If there are any difficulties with adjustments after placement, our workers have extensive training in helping families with a comfortable resolution of these issues. We offer counseling services, resource referrals and post placement support group contact services.
